SHODŌ 05
a No-Makeup Makeup Brush for a skin-like finish.
Shodō 05 is crafted using a first-of-its-kind technique inspired from traditional Japanese calligraphy.
Artisans carefully alternate 10,000+ long and short fibres to create micro-layers along the tip of the brush that gives your makeup a soft, diffused & buildable finish.
Pending community feedback on these brushes, we plan on transitioning more of our existing brushes into the new shodō platform in the future.

Product FAQ+−
can i use this for cream blush or only powder?
about 35% of community members regularly use the shodō 05 with cream products and report smooth, streak-free results. the staggered bristles help blend creams into the skin without lifting product underneath. a small number of community members noted they preferred it with powders, finding creams slightly harder to work with on this brush.
will this work if i tend to be heavy-handed with blush?
this is one of the most consistently praised qualities of the shodō 05. roughly 80% of community members say the brush deposits color gradually and makes over-application nearly impossible. even with highly pigmented formulas, the wispy bristles diffuse product so you can build intensity at your own pace.
how does this compare to the original 05 brush?
community members who own both note that the shodō 05 is less dense and gives a more diffused, sheer finish compared to the original 05. several describe it as a lighter-touch complement rather than a replacement. if you want more pigment payoff, the original 05 may suit you better.
is this brush good for bronzer and contour too?
about 34% of community members use the shodō 05 for bronzer, and many say its mid-size head and tapered shape offer precise placement along the cheekbone and temples. some also use it for light contour work. the diffused finish helps avoid harsh lines, making it forgiving for sculpting.
what's the learning curve like for someone new to this shape?
around 10% of community members mentioned needing a few uses to get comfortable with the angled, tapered shape. most found that a light hand and gentle sweeping or patting motions worked well once they adjusted. community members recommend starting with less product and building up for a natural result.
